The Rescue

You’ve been out on your sailboat all day, enjoying a perfect solo day on the water, in the sun. Finally feeling confident all those sailing lessons have paid off. Most of the boats have gone in for the day, and there’s no one else you can see in the bay. You’re thankful for some peace and quiet.

Suddenly though, you’ve lost track of time. Your boat’s run out of gas, and worse than that, it’s sprung some sort of leak, and is taking on a concerning amount of water. You send out a distress call over the radio, praying that it works.

And he answers with a calm, deep, reassuring voice. He’s going to come rescue you. He makes his way to you, but it’s not fast enough. You have to abandon ship and swim to his boat. Finally, when you get to him, he helps get you safe and warm.

You feel a spark, but you’re wary of him. He gets you to safety, and you assume you’ll never see him again. But your feelings surprise you, and something bigger begins to slowly unfold between the two of you.
